About Us.

Pehiāweri B1B block, located on Ngunguru Road, is a papakāinga for the uri (descendants) of Ngāti Hau. Since the early 2000s, an Ahuwhenua Trust was established, as agreed upon by the shareholders, to oversee the development and management of the block. This trust aims to ensure sustainable and culturally appropriate use of the land for the benefit of current and future generations.

Pehiāweri Ahuwhenua Trust.

Pehiāweri B1B Block was originally part of 289 acres of Ngāti Hau land. In 1865 Te Puia Hirawani, Honi Rakiti and Riripiti Pohe sold Pehiāweri to Kake Peru, Eru, Atearea, Tame, Pirihita, Terewini and Pokaia for the sum of 3 horses, 1 cow and twenty-three pounds. The boundaries were commencing at Mangakino, Otuihau following to Mangakino to Korura Whā Ure Ure and on to Kawhau, then the survey line to Warauroa, Te Kumeti, Ōtaika, Ngarangipakura and Otuihau the point of commencement.
When our Tūpuna Kake Peru passed away in 1876, his whenua of fifty-six acres was succeeded by his tamariki Pirini Kake, Rewi Kake (no tamariki) Keremeneta Kake, Hemi Kake (no tamariki) and Maraea Kake. Due to their young age Aterea te Arahi acted as trustee until they were twenty-one years old.

In 1885 eight acres was gifted to the Anglican Church, Pehiāweri B2 blocks of whenua across the other side of Ngunguru road is approximately six acres, and Pehiāweri B1B’s forty-one and half acres came into being.

Pirini Kake passed away in 1903. His tamariki, Henare Kake, Kahui Kake, Mauhaere Kake, Haki Kake, Wiremu Kake, Perepe Kake (no tamariki) and Toki Kake succeeded to Pehiāweri B1B whenua. We began our journey over 700 years ago with Tūpuna Hautakowera, Kake Peru spans 152 years and Pirini Kake 114 years since their passing. We now get a sense of aroha and tangi for all those who have gone before us. That is why our work within Pehiāweri Marae, B2 and B1B provides many voices for all descendants of our Tūpuna. Winston Peters had this land title reinstated back to the hapū of Ngāti Hau.
